New Additive Produces Lotus Effect® on Surfaces

Degussa’s Care Specialties Business Unit launched its first Lotus Effect® product in October 2003. TEGOTOP® 105 is an additive which produces a nanostructured surface that cleans itself with nothing but water, like the lotus plant. It is suitable for a number of outdoor applications, such as the treatment of lawn furniture and window frames, but also for special applications in industry and automotive technology. TEGOTOP® 105 is a silicone wax-containing product with finely dispersed nanoparticles. It can be used as a component in aerosols or sprays. As on the leaves of lotus plants, the self-cleaning action is semi-permanent. That is, it is degraded by mechanical wear or active detergents, but can be restored.
